Stevenage Vs Watford November 22nd

Hope you have all dried out now. What a day!

Today`s team were: Sam, Alex, Robert,Luke, Darren, George A, Bradley, George M, Lennie,  Taylor, Jo, Alfie, Bobby, Reece, James.

STEVENAGE V WATFORD.

I can`t write to much today as my note book got soaked and all the ink ran, but i can tell you that Darren got our first try of the game, which Robert went on to convert  putting Stevenage in the lead.Alex then went on to get his first try of the season and again it was converted by Robert, which made the half time score Stevenage 14 Watford 0.

In the second half we got 2 more tries, the first by George M, and the second by Lennie, both were converted by Robert. Watford did manage to get one try but the conversion was missed, making the final score: Stevenage 28 Watford 5.

We did have another game, but due to the hail storm it was abandoned at half time, i think Watford got three tries which were all converted. Thank you to those players who played for Watford, as they didn`t have enough players to make a team

Well done to everyone.

Can I also wish Callum a speedy recovery with his knee. See you all on Wednesday for training.

Stevenage Vs Hertford and Chess Valley Round Robin Nov 8th

Today`s team:Sam,Darren,Alfie,Callum, Luke, George A, Reece, Bradley, Alex, Robert, Mac,  Lennie, Taylor, James, Bobby, Jo,George M.

Stevenage V Hertford.
A thoroughly entertaining game full of free flowing rugby. :Lots of commitment was shown by the Stevenage forwards in driving Hertford back and forcing mistake after mistake from their players. This resulted in Lennie scoring our first try which Robert converted. From the restart Hertford were again on the back foot and lots of aggresion from Darren enabled him to break through and score our second try which Robert again converted. As the game continued the Stevenage back line constantly threatened to break through the Hertford defence and this continued probing eventually paid off as Lennie again broke clear and scored his second and Stevenage`s third  and final try, which Robert converted to complete the scoring.
Stevenage 21 Hertford 0.

Stevenage V Chess Valley.

Stevenage carried on from where they left off against Hertfofd. The scrum was powerful and was winning Chess Valley ball as well as their own and at the line out Stevenage secured their own ball and often won Chess Valley. The backs were all asking questions of the Chess Valley defence whick broke to allow Robert to score a try which he went onto convert. The forwards were driving well and controlling the ball and forced Chess Valley back into their own half for long periods where they had to defend desperately. After a lot of pressure Sam forced his way over for the second try of the game, which once again was converted by Robert. From the restart the Stevenage pressure continued with some big tackles being made by everyone most notably Jo. Chess Valley finally broke the Stevenage defence and scored a converted try. Darren again stole the ball from Chess Valley and broke away to score Stevenage`s third try.Unfortunately this was the end of the scoring in this match.

Stevenage 19 Chess Valley 7.

Both of todays games were exciting and fun to watch, which goes to show that all the hard work put in by the players is starting to pay off. Well done to all players.

Donna and Darrin.

U12 MATCH REPORT - SUNDAY 1st NOVEMBER

Todays team:-

George A,Robert,Sam,Alfie,Alex,Reece,Darren,Jo,Taylor,James,Bobby,Mac and Bradley,

Today the Stevenage Town U12s were invited to Old Albanians to train with, and play against, their own U12s.

Match 1,OAs B/A teams V Stevenage

A close fought game dominated by the forwards of both sides.OAs had Stevenage under pressure for a while but a clearance kisk by Robert enabled Stevenage to break into OAs half and ruck over and regain possesion.A sprint up the left wing by George A. took Stevenage within sight of the OAs tryline and he passed inside to Darren who scored a well deserved try in the corner.Robert scored the conversion to make the score 0-7.The rest of this match was dominated by the defences of both sides and despite pressure both ends there was no further score.

OAs B/A 0 Stevenage 7

Match 2,OAs B V Stevenage

This game very much followed the pattern set by thefirst game with few clearcut chances but lots of half breaks and a scrambling defence by both sides.Sam led his team by example, time and again tackling opponentswho were always bigger than him and stopping them dead. The rest of the teamall did their bit in stopping OAs in their tracks and snuffling out any half chances before they could develop any further. The scrum was holding up well, and we were winning somegood ball at the lineout but in the end we could do nothing with it.

OAs 0 Stevenage 0

Match 3 OAs A V Stevenage

By this time Stevenage were starting to tire but they still managed to compete in the set piece, but at times OAs started to find some holes in the Stevenage defence. There were some fantastic tackles made in defence of the Stevenage try line, most notably by James and Bobby who was only starting his third game ever but showed good commitment and determination. At half time Stevenage were 12-0 down. The second half was more of the same with Stevenage effort overpowered by a team who were fresher.OAs scored twice more whilst Stevenage were a player down,Mac having to have some treatment to his hand before returning.

OAs A 22 Stevenage 0

The Stevenage team this week showed huge desire and commitment, especially as we had no substitutes and every player played every game. The games themselves were entertaining and exciting and i think everyone who took part did brilliantly. There is now no excuse not to continue this form into the next match. See you all on Wednesday.

U12 MATCH REPORT - SUNDAY 18TH OCTOBER

Here is your match report from your deputy reporter as the senior reporter was busy (trying to keep warm in the shop).

From the start Stevenage were under pressure straight away with Romford pushing deep into Stevenage territory. The pressure only relieved by good breaks from Robert and Darren. The Stevenage lineout operated well but we were under pressure in the scrum. Romford were giving away lots of penalties but Stevenage could not take advantage of this. George A. stole the ball at the front of the lineout and Lenny broke through the Romford defence but, as in most of the game, Stevenage could not finish off the move with a score, an intercepted pass was thrown and Romford raced away to score. In the second half the game continued much as in the first. Stevenage were struggling to put together any passages of play and because of this were forced back into their own half for long periods, only broken by occasional breaks. Under some heavy pressure at a scrum, Romford got a drive on and forced their way over for another converted try.

Final score Stevenage 0 Romford 14

The second game started as a war of attrition with no quarter asked or given. Because of this at times tempers became raised and a lot of fouls were given away on both sides. Stevenage were again under a lot of sustained pressure with our captain Sam tackling as if his life depended on it. Unfortunately this pressure resulted in Romford scoring a converted try, and another, and another, and another, and another and one more try, but the conversion was missed. During this sustained assault by Romford, Stevenage struggled to get into their opponents half, though Jo tried several times with her rampaging runs from deep. Despite all their effort, Stevenage were unable to score a point in the remainder of the game.

Final score Stevenage 0 Romford 40

Today’s team

George A, Lenny, Taylor, Robert, Luke, Bobby, Mac, Sam, George M, Darren, Jo, Bradley, Richmond, Elfie, James, Alex.

LETCHWORTH MINI FESTIVAL - SEPTEMBER 2009

LETCHWORTH U12  36-----STEVENAGE U12  14

A big well done and thank you to all of those who came to Letchworth today. The weather was great (perhaps a bit too great for rugby) and so was the ONLY game we managed to play.

Although we didn`t win, we had a great game, and we should be very proud of our team, every player played well, and showed they were keen to play.

A big welcome and well done must go to James Tutt and Bobby Champion who made their debut appearances with us, both played a good game and made some good tackles.

Darren Outram scored our first try of the season and Robert Boulton got the first conversion just before half time.

The second half was fast and furious with our boys showing lots of determination, which ended with George Armstrong scoring our second try and Robert getting the second conversion.

Luckily on such a hard ground there were no injuries, but lots of controlled aggression was shown in the scrums, rucks and mauls. This could only be what put Letchworth off from wanting to play another game against us!

So once again a great big well done and thanks for a lovely morning.

Todays team were:
Sam,  George M,  Alex, Robert,  Taylor,  Lennie, Luke,  Darren,  George A,  Callam,  Bradley, Reece ,  James and Bobby.

Well done lads keep up the good work!

U12's Coaches / Managers - Donna, Ray, John, Darrin and Darren.
